  • MUID 1002 - Popular Music and Songwriting

    Credit Hours: 3
    Description: This course is for students seeking to learn about popular music. The course will examine three aspects of music: the societal and cultural context that produces musical style, the technical construction of the music itself, and the resultant ideas that music expresses. To gain a deep understanding of these, the student will listen to and analyze historical musical examples and engage in ‘hands-on’ work, using software applications to compose and produce songs.

    Description: Basic introduction to music technologies available to the musician; introduction to software, hardware, and basic tenets of MIDI sequencing, notation, composition, studio audio production CR ROM availability, CD/DVD technology.   • MUID 2103 - Applied Lessons in Songwriting

    Credit Hours: (1)
    Description: Individual instruction in the techniques for creating commercially viable songs in popular music formats. Original student compositions created in Songwriting courses are individually addressed in this private lesson course. Students are also encouraged to write songs in collaboration with other students. It is recommended this course be taken simultaneously with MUID 3203, but not required.

    Description: Focus on needs of practicing audio engineer. Concepts and practices of using equipment commonly found in electronic music studios with emphasis on digital audio workstation; sampling, synthesis, MIDI, patching, editing, synchronization, signal processing and creative commercial production techniques. Students must be proficient with Macintosh or Windows environment including; basic system operations, data backup functions, file manipulation, data translation and common application programs.     Description:

    Live Sound Engineering explores the operation and design of sound reinforcement systems. Students develop knowledge of signal flow, mixing board operation, microphone choice and placement, basic concert lighting considerations, as well as the analysis of and solutions for acoustic anomalies that arise in live sound reinforcement.  PREREQUISITE: MUID 4800 and permission of instructor.

    Description: Integrated musicianship course combining music theory, ear training, and group piano in a shared curriculum; explores pitch, rhythm, intervals, scales, and chords in various musical styles.

  
  • MUTC 1008 - Music Theory I

    Description: Fundamentals of pitch and rhythmic notation; scales, intervals, diatonic, triads, and seventh chords in major and minor keys; principles of voice leading and harmonic progressions; Roman numeral and lead sheet notation.
