ARTH 6155 - Art Since 1945 Credit Hours: (3) Description This course explores cutting-edge visual art practices and theories during the second half of the twentieth century with a focus on Western culture. Discussion moves chronologically and thematically through various innovative movements and trends, exploring internationally shared artistic techniques and goals. Students will learn about avant-garde artistic practices that have shaped and continue to shape our global culture. Students will gain familiarity with artistic movements and individual artists as well as develop the ability to analyze the content and contexts of works of art. Topics include Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Minimalism, Process Art, Land Art, Conceptual Art, Body and Performance Art, Installation Art, the Black Arts Movement, Feminist Art, and Queer Art.
