PLAN 7201 - Smart City and Urban Infrastructure Credit Hours: (3) Former: 7201 Description This course is designed to explore theoretical and technical dimensions of the emerging topic of smart city and urban infrastructure, an interdisciplinary realm of research and practice that includes various infrastructure systems and services. The course aims to investigate how urban infrastructure is defined, delivered, and financed. The first part of the course deals with theoretical foundations of community support system including social and economic underpinnings of the demand for urban infrastructure. The second part reviews the range and types of city elements that serve urban communities. The third part explores how urban infrastructure can be implemented—to either serve existing development patterns more efficiently or can be planned to provide service to new development more sustainably.
