MATH 7356 - Functional Analysis II Credit Hours: (3) Description Bounded and unbounded operators on Hilbert and Banach spaces, spectral representation and spectral theory for bounded, unitary, self-adjoint, positive, compact operators and Hilbert-Schmidt operators will be included. Certain topics on Banach spaces, such as Schauder bases, isometric/ isomorphic theory of Banach spaces, Lp (1 ≤ p < ∞) spaces, C(K) spaces, Orlicz and Sobolev spaces may be selected.
Applications to approximation and /or probability theory, and/or PDE, ODE and/or ergodic theory will be presented depending on the instructor as well as educational needs of the students taking the class. More advanced topics will be considered under the discretion of the instructor.
The course may be repeated [with a different content] up to 6 credit hours. PREREQUISITE(S)- MATH 8355 or instructor’s permission. PREREQUISITE(S): MATH 7355. Standard Lecture
