SOCI 8480 - Sociology of Childhood and Youth Credit Hours: 3 Description This course will examine how children shape and are shaped by the social worlds in which they live. We will examine how the meaning and experience of childhood varies historically and across current social locations. We will focus on several topics during the semester: the history of childhood, parenting and its effect on youth, how your experience education, play, peer relationships, health and deviance. We also focus on issues of gender, social class, race/ethnicity and sexuality as they relate to childhood and youth. PREREQUISITE(S): Graduate standing
