SOCI 1010 - Introduction to Sociology ** Credit Hours: 3 Description: What is society? What is the role of the individual in society? How does the way society is organized, such as via race, gender, social class, and sexuality, affect the behaviors, beliefs, and lived experiences of people? How can we change our societies? This course introduces students to the field of sociology and empowers students to develop their “sociological imagination”: the ability to think beyond our personal lives and to connect the experiences of individuals with large social structures and social institutions. Students are introduced to the concepts, methods, and theoretical perspectives in sociology along with the basic principles of sociological reasoning. [G]
