(3) African American Photographic Culture is a 7000-8000 level seminar course that examines the historical relationship between photography and the African American experience. It is an interdisciplinary course useful to a broad range of students interested in the black image and photographs as art, history, and material culture. The course focuses on African Americans as creators and theorists of photographic imagery. The course will also examine the broader picture of photographic traditions in Africa and the African Diaspora.
