The Fogelman College of Business and Economics is one of the premier schools of business in the Mid-South and is fully accredited by the AACSB-International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB-International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review.

The Fogelman College of Business and Economics provides a high quality business education to a diverse student population by teaching a rigorous and relevant business curriculum, supported and strengthened by research and community outreach. Graduate degree programs serve the workforce needs of the Mid-South region and beyond and prepare students for leadership roles in the technology-driven and globally competitive marketplace. The College offers a PhD program in Business Administration in selected areas to prepare students for teaching, research, or professional careers while serving as a research catalyst to stimulate faculty scholarly endeavors.

The College contains six departments and offers both doctoral and master’s degrees in a wide variety of subject domains. Individual program requirements are described in the latest published About Graduate Catalog  of the University of Memphis and are subject to change. Please consult your graduate advisor for changes that may occur before publication of the next issue of this Catalog. All graduate students must comply with the general requirements of the Graduate School (see Admission Regulations Academic Regulations , and  Minimum Degree Requirements ) and the program requirements of the degree being pursued.

Masters Degree Programs

The College offers both a Professional and Online MBA program designed to accommodate the schedules of full-time working professionals. MBA concentration options combine the interdisciplinary training of the base degree with specialization in one of 10 sub-areas such as Finance, Data Analytics, and Supply Chain Management. The College also offers joint degree programs combining the MBA with advanced degrees in law, healthcare management, and pharmacy.

The Master of Science in Accounting program provides the conceptual foundation and professional skills to prepare individuals for advanced career opportunities.

The Master of Arts in Economics is a STEM-designated degree providing a solid foundation in economic theory and training in quantitative analysis with the purpose of preparing graduates either for PhD program or professional jobs in the private sector.

The Master of Science in Business Administration in Finance program is a 33-hour program that provides a deeper exploration of finance and related topics than traditional MBA programs. Graduates acquire the financial knowledge and skills required for careers in the financial industry.

The Master of Science in Information Systems degree combines business management with information technologies, preparing students to succeed as business and systems analysts, data analysts, systems and application designers, technology project managers and leaders, and more.

Doctor of Philosophy Degree

The Doctor of Philosophy Degree is offered in each department in the college: Accounting, Economics, Finance and Real Estate, Management, Management Information Systems, and Marketing & Supply Chain Management. A limited number of students are admitted to doctoral programs each year as students work collaboratively with faculty developing their research skills. Graduates of the PhD programs typically take academic positions in colleges and universities nationally. General requirements for the PhD degree are outlined in individual departmental listings. More detailed information about prerequisites, course work, research requirements, etc., may be obtained from the graduate coordinator of the respective departments.
