Teaching of Mathematics Graduate Certificate

Program objective is to provide content knowledge training required for teaching lower division college mathematics courses. This training will help high school teachers meet the content knowledge requirements for the teaching of dual enrollment courses, and help satisfy the demand created by the Tennessee Promise program, for individuals qualified to teach mathematics in community colleges.

Requirements
Admission Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree with a major in mathematics, statistics, or mathematics secondary education is required. The minimum GPA is 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students whose major was not in mathematics, statistics, or mathematics secondary education will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- GRE General Test scores are required and are an important factor in admission. This requirement may be waived for those applicants who have a graduate degree (master’s degree or higher) already, who have a graduate GPA of 3.0 or above, and who have work experience in an education related field for 3 or more years. If GRE scores are waived, applicants will have to provide contact details of two referees who are able to address their suitability for this graduate program.
- TOEFL scores are required for students whose native language is not English.
Program and Graduation Requirements:
The program consists of 18 Graduate Credit Hours in Mathematics, approved by the department and includes an in-depth study of the teaching of Pre-Calculus and Calculus.
