MA and EdS Degree

Admission Standards and Procedures

Enrollment in the program is limited. All application information must be received by March 1 (early admission) and May 1 (regular admission) for an applicant to be considered for admission to the MA and EdS program in School Psychology. Applications will be reviewed as they are completed, and applicants are encouraged to complete the application well in advance of the deadline. The program is pursued on a full-time basis, and students enroll for 12 hours each semester. Enrolling for fewer hours is done with the permission of the program director.

The following items are required for consideration for admission:

  1. A completed application form accessed at: https://apply.memphis.edu/portal/graduate_application.
  2. An official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate coursework must be sent. An undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.5/4.0 is required for admission without special permission.
  3. Letters of recommendation from at least three persons (professional educators, psychologists, and/or employers) familiar with the applicant’s academic background, aptitude for graduate work in school psychology, and interest in working with school-age children in school settings.
  4. Undergraduate preparation in Psychology and/or Education. It is strongly recommended that applicants have at least 18 undergraduate hours in Psychology and/or Education, with preparation in the psychology of learning, psychological measurement, human growth and development, and foundations of education.
  5. A personal statement that should address the following: A) Your experiences and interests in school-based practice and research, including working with a multicultural and diverse public and B) Your potential match with our program’s mission and aims in terms of your interests, and career/professional goals.

GRE scores are not required and should not be submitted.

Applications to the MA/Eds in School Psychology program are only considered during the spring, to make decisions about enrollment for the following fall semester. Meeting the minimum department standards only ensures consideration of the application but does not entitle an applicant admission to the program.

Further information about applying may be found at: https://www.memphis.edu/psychology/graduate/apply.php.
