Business Administration - Executive Leadership Concentration, (MBA)

Graduates of the Executive Leadership Concentration in the MBA Program, the newly named and revised program replacing the previously deactivated Executive Concentration, (MBA)  will be

  • Able to function as a leader.
  • Technically competent.
  • Knowledgeable about social and ethical issues and trends affecting businesses.
  • Knowledgeable in functional areas and their integration.
  • Able to think critically and solve problems.

Master of Business Administration


An MBA is designed for those students who are interested in managerial careers – for those with leadership aspirations and abilities. Specific program objectives include:

  1. acquisition of managerial-level knowledge of and skills in economics, financial reporting and analysis, operations, strategic use of science and technology, and creating customer and societal value in the global arena;
  2. acquisition of managerial-level knowledge of and skills in creativity and innovation, leadership and team-building, ethics and law;
  3. acquisition of managerial-level knowledge of and appreciation for the global implications of all business decision-making.

Program Admission


Applicants to the MBA, Executive Leadership concentration program must have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or institution.
  2. Official transcripts from all academic institutions must be submitted.
  3. A minimum of five years experience in a managerial or professional position
  4. Letter of support from your company. Entrepreneurs and independent professionals should submit letters explaining their individual situations. 
  5. Two letters of recommendation
  6. Complete the University of Memphis Application for Graduate Admission and submit the $35 application fee.
  7. Complete the Executive MBA Application for admission.
  8. Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  9. A current resume

All qualified applicants must participate in a personal interview, which will be scheduled after all other application requirements are completed.

MBA Preparatory Knowledge


Students entering the MBA program with Executive Leadership Concentration are expected to be fluent in the language of business; students are expected to have a working understanding of key concepts in economics, finance, and accounting. In addition, students are expected to have a working proficiency in statistics. If students have deficiencies in the basic concepts and skills of business, they may be counseled (by the MBA Program Director and/or the MBA program staff) to take preparatory courses and/or secure self-paced review materials. There are no prerequisite courses to the MBA programs.

EMBA Program Requirements


Each candidate for the MBA with Executive Leadership Concentration degree must complete a minimum of 42 semester hours of course work that include 30 hours of Core Knowledge and Skills and an additional 12 hours of coursework.

MBA, Executive Leadership Concentration: Program Requirements


The MBA with Executive Leadership Concentration is a 42 credit-hour program that can be completed in 17 months. All students generally progress together through the program with some flexibility built in to allow specialization based on the background and needs of executive cohorts. Courses are offered in a variety of formats, including in-class sessions, technology-enhanced instruction, hybrid format, and intensive domestic residencies. Learning materials and content are specially designed for corporate executives in all formats. Classes meet in synchronous and asynchronous format in addition to in-person residencies and executive coaching sessions.
