Public Health, (B.S.)

This 62 credit-hour major provides students with a strong foundation in public health through evidence-informed course content; community-based internships; and a curriculum based on established competencies, best practices, and accreditation standards.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) program integrates academic rigor with real-world solutions to promote healthy communities. This program will consist of core public health courses in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Health Policy, Public Health Practice, Social and Behavioral Health and interdisciplinary core courses in Anthropology, Communications, Health Sciences and Sociology.  Faculty and students collaborate with local health and community agencies to help prevent chronic disease, inform public policy and reduce health disparities. Students will have the opportunity to design and test public health initiatives using an experiential approach through engaged scholarship opportunities.

Field Experience & Capstone (4 hours)


Senior Capstone Experience (3 hours)


The senior Capstone Experience is a student’s culminating experience or capstone designed to synthesize and integrate the content of a student’s program of study. The senior project is intended to coalesce the theoretical and applied areas of study into an academically-relevant example of scholarship. Students will complete research on a topic of their choice with approval of their senior project instructor. The senior capstone project is completed during a student’s final semester and includes a completed e-portfolio.

Guided Electives: (39 hours)


Select at least 13 guided electives courses: either pre-health courses and interdisciplinary courses from the list below, or a combination of both, or any other relevant courses with the consent of their advisor:

Students should consult with their advisors based on their pre-health or other career interests.

Total Hours Required for Graduation: 120


*Students opting and approved for the Accelerated BSPH/MPH (4+1) program in Public Health should consult their advisors to learn about the approval process and course selection.
