The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) degree combines business management with information technologies, preparing students to succeed in careers such as business and systems analysts, data analysts, systems and application designers, technology project managers and leaders, and more.
The program is designed to support both full-time and part-time completion of the degree plus a pathway to the department's PhD program.

Admission Standards and Procedures
The Fogelman MSIS degree program is designed to encourage a broad range of students to consider applying for admission. Students with many different backgrounds choose our program including both professional and academic. Whether you are just completing an undergraduate degree or have been in the workforce for a while, the Fogelman MSIS program may be the right choice for you. Program Admission
- U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, awarded by an accredited college or university. The MSIS program will consider three-year degrees from accredited institutions.
- 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale).
- GRE score of 300 or greater. (GMAT scores also considered.)
- English Proficiency (when applicable)
GRE scores are waived for:
- Students with a bachelor’s degree and a 3.25 or better.
- Students with a post graduate degree in which they received a GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Students who have completed a graduate certificate in MIS with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Students who have a proven working career in the IT field of 5 or more years and a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75.

If an applicant is required to submit standardized test scores, below are the minimum requirements for admission: - GRE: 300 or better (overall score)
- GMAT (traditional): 450 or better (overall score)
- GMAT (new/Focus): 455 or better (overall score)
English Proficiency (when applicable):
Proficiency at full communication using English is a central element of success in the MSIS program. - DET (Duolingo English Test) - Overall minimum of 110 with no sub-score below 90.
- TOEFL - 550 on paper version, 80 on internet-based test with no sub-score below 20.
- IELTS - Overall minimum of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0.
- PTE (Pearson) - Overall minimum of 59
Program Requirements
33 credit hours of graduate coursework consisting of the following: - Core Courses (18 credit hours)

Choose 5 graduate level courses among those in the list below, approved by departmental advisor: Experiential Learning Credit
Students are allowed to request a maximum of 6 credit hours of experiential learning credit for the purposes of meeting their degree requirements. - The experiential learning 6 credit hours will apply toward the required credit hours needed to complete a concentration.
- These six credit hours of experiential learning credit will be granted only for students who have qualified, exceptional experience that can be related to one or more courses in the degree program.
- To request consideration for the credit hours, students must submit a portfolio for review by following the guidelines of the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Transfer Credit
Students transferring into the MSIS program may be allowed credit towards graduation using graduate-level credit from other programs at the University of Memphis or other institutions. Decisions on credit transfer are made on an individual basis by the MIS program faculty and advising team. Internships
Students in the MSIS program are encouraged to pursue internships with external employers during their course of study. For international students on F1 visas, the MSIS program follows the guidelines of the CPT (Curricular Practical Training) work/study model in cooperation with the campus’ Center for International Educational Services (CIES). Elective credit for graduation can be earned through approved CPT internships. Graduation Requirements
- Fulfill the above program requirements.
- Must be enrolled in the term of intended graduation (Fall, Spring or Summer).
- Must follow the process outlined by the Graduate School by the stipulated deadlines
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on all graduate coursework.
- No more than 7 hours of “C+,” “C,” or “C-” will be counted towards the degree. Additionally, courses with final grades of “D” or “F” will not be counted towards graduation but will be computed in overall GPA.
Retention Policy
- Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 to continue in the program.
- Students on probation must adhere to an advising plan established by the program coordinator.
- A second semester on probation may result in termination.
