The Master of Science in Finance gives students specialized emphasis in finance and offers in-depth exploration of Finance & related topics, with a strong emphasis on financial technology, data analytics, and hands-on experience using industry-standard tools. The Master of Science in Finance is a 33-hour program that has a typical graduation timeline of two (2) years. Prominent features of the program are the wide range of Finance electives, evening classes that are convenient to students working in the Memphis area and small class sizes.

Admission Standards and Procedures
Admission Standards
Required:- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Undergraduate grade point average that satisfies the Graduate School requirement of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- Successful completion of at least one semester of calculus (MATH 1830, MATH 1910 or equivalent).
- For international students only: if an English Proficiency Exam is needed, a score of at least 80 on TOEFL, 6.5 on IELTS, or 110 on Duolingo.
- Test scores (either Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is accepted), particularly quantitative scores, are required. Applicants are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, depending on the applicant’s background. Test scores will only be waived when the other components of the application indicate a very strong likelihood of success in the program.

Admission Procedures
Include the following materials in your online application via the Tiger Tracks portal: Required:- Official transcripts from each college or university attended.
- GRE or GMAT scores
- International students must additionally include:
- If your highest degree earned is from an international university, a credential evaluation by any credentialling agency listed in www.naces.org may be required.
- If an English Proficiency Exam is needed, TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo test scores.
Notes- Applications are received and considered on a rolling basis to enter this program at the beginning of Fall or Spring semesters. The Fall application deadline is August 19, and the Spring application deadline is January 8. Waitlisted students will be notified of admission decisions shortly after these deadlines.
- Individuals who have not yet decided to pursue a graduate degree or who have professional development needs to enroll may apply for enrollment in the Financial Analysis and Planning Graduate Certificate. All certificate courses count towards the MSBA degree.
- The Graduate Non-Degree classification allows individuals who have not yet decided to pursue a graduate degree or who have professional development needs to enroll in MS courses (a maximum of 9 credit hours) which can later be counted towards the MSBA degree.
Program Requirements
33 credit hours of graduate coursework consisting of the following: - Finance Courses (18 credit hours)
- Elective Courses (15 credit hours)
Finance Courses (18 credit hours)
- At least six courses (18 credit hours) at the graduate level (courses numbered 6000-8000) offered by the Finance and Real Estate Department (courses with prefix FIR )
- At least three courses (9 credit hours) must be at the 7000 level or higher.
Elective Courses (15 credit hours)
- Choose up to 5 graduate level courses (15 credit hours) from graduate courses offered by other departments in the Fogelman College.
- Upon approval of an advisor, a graduate course can be taken from colleges other than the Fogelman College.
- Between concentration courses and elective courses, no more than 3 courses (9 credit hours) may be taken at the 6000 level.
Thesis Option
- With the approval of the program coordinator, a candidate may choose to write a thesis under the guidance of a faculty member in lieu of 1 elective course (3 credit hours).
- Students electing to write a thesis should familiarize themselves with the Thesis/Dissertation Preparation Guide before starting to write.
Graduation Requirements
- Fulfill the above program requirements.
- Must be enrolled in the term of intended graduation (Fall, Spring or Summer).
- Must follow the process outlined by the Graduate School by the stipulated deadlines.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on all graduate coursework.
- No more than 7 hours of “C+,” “C,” or “C-” will be counted towards the degree.
Retention Policy
- Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 to continue in the program.
- Students on probation must adhere to an advising plan established by the program coordinator.
- A second semester on probation may result in termination.
