Admission Requirements

1. Hold a graduate degree in counseling from a program that was accredited by CACREP at the time of graduation or be currently enrolled in a graduate counseling program at the University of Memphis. 
2. Complete a program admission application including a personal statement and resume.
3. Provide two letters of academic and/or professional reference; and
4. Complete an interview with the school counseling coordinator.

Program Requirements

Total Credit Hours: 15 minimum (18 if special education/disability course needed)

The school counseling coordinator will complete a transcript review to ensure that all requirements for licensure have been met; therefore, courses in addition to the following may be required.

• COUN 7640 - Principles Schl Couns Credit Hours: (3)
• COUN 7542 - Child Counseling, Consultation and Intervention in Schools Credit Hours: (3)
• COUN 7826 - Schl Coun to Close Achvmnt Gap ** Credit Hours: (3)
• SPED 7000 - Introduction to Critical Foundations of Inclusive Education in the 21st Century Credit Hours: (3)

• (if special education/disability course not taken in undergraduate or graduate program)

• COUN 7660 - School Counseling Internship Credit Hours: 4-6

• Students enrolled in full-time internship (600 hours) will enroll in 6 credit hours. Students enrolled in part-time internship (300 hours) will enroll in 4 credit hours for two semesters. Students without one-year minimum teaching experience will need to complete an additional 25 hours observing the school environment.
