COUN 8825 - Strategies Career Coun in K-12 Credit Hours: (3) Description This online course emphasizes a practical application of career theory to school settings to assist all students plan for life beyond high schools. The adoption of career and college readiness standards by an increasing number of states has created a need for school counselors to lead efforts to design and implement comprehensive K-12 career planning programs. This course aims to build specialization as participants develop the skills to design and implement cohesive career guidance programs informed by developmental theory, assessment, and the career decision-making process. A core requirement of this course is for students to work with a high school age student to complete an 8-session career counseling portfolio. Students enrolled in the School counseling program can substitute this course for COUN 7561 Career Counseling (3). PREREQUISITE(S): ESCI 1010, PHYS 2110/2111.
