HIST 6331 - After Empire: Rome in the Dark Ages

Credit Hours: 3.0
Description This course offers a close analysis of the collapse and rebirth of the city of Rome, from 312 to 1517 CE. Students will learn the ins and outs of the city’s remarkable urban landscape, and how it transformed from a place that could house a million people to a desolate place that held a few thousand by 550 CE. After demographic collapse, the city’s new set of leaders, the popes, redeveloped Rome’s fabric with a religious orientation. Participants will work closely with archaeological and written sources pertaining to the streets, buildings, and people of Dark Age Rome. Standard Letter
