HIST 2040 - Genocide and World History

Description: This course studies the history of genocide in the 20^th century in a comparative framework, utilizing the enormity and emotional impact of the subject to emphasize historical concepts of agency and individuality. The central case studies will include the Armenian Genocide, Rwandan Genocide, and the Holocaust. Students will explore the very definition of genocide and its root causes, including political, intellectual, social, economic and scientific factors. Further, the course will look at the impact of genocide and contemplate attempts at reconciliation.
