SWRK 4065 - ST Global Culture and Wellbeing in South Korea Credit Hours: 3 Description: This faculty-led study abroad course, “Global Culture and Wellbeing in South Korea,” offers an immersive experiential learning opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students. Students will explore the dynamic interplay of culture, societal structures, and wellbeing in contemporary South Korea, visiting key sites in Seoul and Busan. The program integrates cultural excursions (e.g., palaces, traditional villages, markets, demilitarized zone [DMZ]) with academic engagements (e.g., guest lectures, company/university visits) to provide a multifaceted understanding of the nation. Students will examine how historical contexts and rapid modernization have shaped South Korean approaches to individual and community wellbeing, and consider these within a global comparative framework. This course emphasizes critical reflection on cultural norms, social issues, and personal growth through direct engagement with South Korean society, with graduate students expected to engage with more advanced theoretical concepts and research methodologies.
