Special Education Comprehensive Graduate Certificate

Graduate Certificate


The Special Education Comprehensive Certificate is designed for individuals seeking certification in Comprehensive Special Education or wanting to enhance their knowledge of Low Incidence Disabilities. The program provides advanced coursework directed at evidenced-based instructional practices for K-12 students with low incidence disabilities (e.g., intellectual disorders, ASD, multiple disabilities).

Admission Requirements:


  • Application to the Graduate School
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Submission of a 2-page essay outlining past experience with individuals with disabilities and goals for acquiring a certificate in Comprehensive Special Education (in lieu of a GRE score)

Graduation Requirements:


To receive this certificate, students must have successfully passed all four courses with a 3.0 or higher (cumulative for the four-course sequence) and received no less than a letter grade of B in any of the four courses.

Retention Requirements:


All students enrolled in the four-course certificate program must earn and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher for each of the courses. Failure to receive a letter grade of B or higher will result in student retaking the course to successfully complete the certificate program.
