Anthropology, Applied Anthropology Concentration (B.A.)

This concentration is available for anthropology majors. The concentration mirrors the graduate degree in applied anthropology. The concentration will allow undergraduate students to have a skills-based series of courses that offers concrete training in qualitative methodology and what it means to be a practicing anthropologist. 

University General Education Program (41 hours)

College and Degree (B.A.) Requirements (6-9 hours)


The College and Bachelor of Arts requirements  are in addition to the University General Education Program requirements that are listed above.

The Major (30 hours)


Completion of 30 semester hours in anthropology courses including

Concentration Requirements (12 hours)


The concentration in Applied Anthropology will allow undergraduate students to have a skills-based series of courses that offers concrete training in qualitative methodology and what it means to be a practicing anthropologist. The concentration is made up of four courses (12 hours), two core courses and two electives.

Electives


Electives must be chosen in consultation with an advisor to bring the total number of hours to at least 120.

Minimum Requirements for Graduation:


  • Students must complete at least 60 hours from a 4-year institution.
  • Students must complete at least 42 hours of upper-division credit (3000 or 4000-level).
  • Students must complete at least 30 of the last 60 hours through the University of Memphis.
  • Students must complete at least 9 graded hours in the major at the University of Memphis.
  • Student must sastisfy University General Education Program  requirement.
  • To receive a bachelor’s degree from any of the colleges in the University, students must have an overall grade point average of at least 2.00.
