Journalism (B.A.)

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Communication and Fine Arts

The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism trains students to become professionals in the news industry. Journalism graduates typically work at magazines, newspapers, television stations and online news outlets as anchors, content creators, editors, photographers, producers, reporters and social media managers. Journalism students take 51 hours of credit from Journalism and Strategic Media.

Within the journalism major, students have high flexibility to craft a plan of study that suits their career goals. For example, students interested in sports journalism should take JOUR 4150, 4155, 4124, and JRSM 4704. Students should consult with their academic adviser to develop a plan of study to fit their needs.

Students are strongly encouraged to use elective hours to obtain a minor. Minors should coordinate with the student’s career goals and should advance their understanding of a reporting area. Students should consult with their academic adviser when selecting a minor.
