Admission Requirements

In addition to the major requirements for the Social Work, (B.A.) , the University General Education Requirements  and college requirements, students seeking the School Social Work Concentration must be admitted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP) at the University of Memphis. Students who are seeking licensure by the State of Tennessee as a Licensed School Social Work (LSSW) will need to complete the School Social Work Licensure Application and secure a letter of support from the School Social Work Coordinator. Please consult the University of Memphis School of Social Work website for current information about the licensure process.

The Concentration

12 hours in addition to University General Education Program requirements and the Major requirements

• SWRK 4937 - School Social Work Credit Hours: (3)
• SPED 2000 - Foundation/Exceptional Learn Credit Hours: (3)
• SPED 3803 - Classroom/Behavior Management Credit Hours: (3)

• and

  Choose one of the Following

• SWRK 4061 - Substance Abuse Treatment Credit Hours: (3)
• SWRK 4615 - Introduction to Infant Mental Health Credit Hours: (3)
• SWRK 4934 - Child Welfare Policy/Services Credit Hours: (3)
• SWRK 4935 - Child Welfare II Credit Hours: (3)
• SWRK 4944 - Encountering Poverty Credit Hours: (3)

• or

  Another course approved by the advisor

   

• SWRK 4830 Field Instruction Soc Work I  and SWRK 4831 Field Instruction Soc Work II  (5) completed in a school setting (this is a part of the B.A. requirements and will count towards your overall B.A. and concentration requirements.)

 

Electives may be chosen to bring the total number of hours to 120 with a minimum of 42 upper-division hours.
