Accreditation information about the program

The Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s (ABM) program in Electrical Engineering allows outstanding undergraduates to begin the coursework for the Master of Science (M S) in Electrical Engineering during their undergraduate studies. Students are encouraged to begin planning to enter the ABM program early in their undergraduate career, in consultation with their academic advisor.

To be eligible, students must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average and must have completed at least 75 credit hours of undergraduate coursework towards the B S in Electrical Engineering. To apply, students must (1) complete an interview with the undergraduate academic coordinator, (2) request a letter of sponsorship from a program faculty member, and (3) submit a statement of interest to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Qualified students will be admitted to the ABM program when they have no more than 34 credit hours remaining to complete the B S in Electrical Engineering.

Undergraduate students who are selected into the program must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA each semester until completion of the B S in Electrical Engineering. ABM undergraduates must also apply to the Graduate School for the ABM program, which allows them to take graduate courses as an undergraduate student. Working with the undergraduate and graduate academic coordinators, ABM undergraduates may register for and substitute graduate level courses for undergraduate electives or take and substitute graduate versions of required undergraduate courses.  However, any graduate coursework will not apply to undergraduate GPA.

To continue in the program past the B S in Electrical Engineering, students must apply for full admission into the M S in Electrical Engineering of The University of Memphis Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering. Students that are eligible for the ABM program will have the GRE requirement waived.
