Health Studies - Healthcare Leadership Concentration, (B.S.)

Health Studies (B.S.)

Program objectives for a B.S. in Health Studies are: (a) to demonstrate critical thinking skills, specifically in the areas of evaluating evidence and understanding sources; (b) to demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication and computer utilization; (c) to use knowledge of functional anatomy and biomechanics to analyze and evaluate movement and to prescribe exercises to prevent injuries and enhance performance; (d) to recognize risk factors (i.e., cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal) and their relationship to physical activity, nutrition and other lifestyle behaviors; identify risk factors, which may require consultation with medical or allied health professionals (e) to demonstrate an understanding of principles and research-based guidelines for nutrition, body composition, and weight management when analyzing current status and prescribing desirable changes; (f) to demonstrate understanding of the basic principles of program planning, management, evaluation, and administration of health and wellness programs and facilities.

Natural Science


Natural Science requirements are fulfilled by BIOL 2010 /BIOL 2011  and BIOL 2020 /BIOL 2021  as part of the major core for Health Sciences and Healthcare Leadership concentrations.

Electives (29-32 hours)


Selected in consultation with advisor to bring the total number of credit hours to 120. Guided Electives.

In some of the above courses, variable hours of supervised laboratory/field experience will be required.

**Internship is for 6 hours unless student has five years or more in a healthcare occupation, then for 3 hours.
