Music Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Communication and Fine Arts

The Music Minor facilitates the pursuit of musical interests and knowledge alongside another academic discipline. Coursework includes basic musicianship, music history, and the flexibility to choose electives based on interest.

Requirements

The Music Minor can be added to any major course of study at the University of Memphis. Students wishing to declare a minor in music must do so via the School of Music application. While a performed audition is not required to declare the minor, an audition must be completed for students to become eligible for music scholarship, be accepted into an applied studio, and for participation in most performing ensembles.

The minor in Music consists of 18 credit hours and is designed to allow a great degree of flexibility for students to pursue their own interests in music. All music minors will learn basic musicianship skills and study music history, while having the option to pursue additional areas such as performance, popular music, music history, or music & society.
